Hi Apoorvaa! I’ve been a great fan of yours ever since I heard you on Indian Raga(can’t count the number of times I’ve listened to Irish Malhar and Swar Saadhana) My sense of kinship with you deepened when I discovered that you were a great writer through your old blog. I was also pursuing a Masters in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo (at around the same time you were at Brown) Just wanted to give you a shoutout that you have a (potential) friend on the Internet cheering you on in your exploration of your Polypathic self!

Thank you so much for your kind note and shoutout Maithri! It's super gratifying to hear that my music and writing has been resonating with you over the years. Look forward to your support and involvement in the PolyPath community :)

For sure! I believe that each of us is a PolyPath, and that we find our different ‘paths’ based on how safe we feel in the different virtual and real platforms we come across in life. For instance, I have a younger sister who used to get irritated by the fact that she used to be known as ‘Maithri’s younger sister’ all the time that we were at school together. She was the proverbial overshadowed sibling, being an average student and too struck by stage fright to shine on stage in the way that came somewhat naturally to me at that time. However, once I graduated from 12th grade and we shifted schools, she began to discover her own identity - becoming Sports Captain(I suck at most organized sports) and going on to become a topper and getting a silver medal in her graduate degree. She also took on the responsibility of caring for our mother when she was sick, in such an efficient and mature way, that makes me proud to be known as her older sister now. :) I would love to hear your thoughts on creating such safe spaces for ourselves or for others to thrive in, as we go about our daily lives!

That's a great point Maithri! We need a safe space not just for our paths to flourish but even to identify them in the first place. This definitely needs some systemic and institutional changes. I will think about this more and perhaps write a post about this. Happy to co-write with you as well if you are interested :)

Thanks so much for sharing your and your sisters' story in this detail, food for thought!

I would love to co-write a post about this! However I’m currently recovering from a long illness, so can’t commit to it for at least two months. Will surely reach out to you then if the offer’s still open. :)

Looking forward to the next post!
