Recently, I had a fascinating conversation with Kush, a computer science student who is also drawn to writing, economics and cooking. His enthusiasm for exploring the intersection of these fields, and his thoughtful questions about navigating multiple paths, perfectly embodies the spirit of the PolyPaths movement. Our dialogue delved into the delicate balance between ambition and patience, a challenge many PolyPaths face as they strive for growth and fulfillment.
Kush: I'm really keen to start writing more consistently, but a little unsure where to begin.
Me: That's fantastic, Kush! How about writing on topics that bridge your interests, like the 'Economics of Startups' or 'How AI Startups Are Changing the Economy.' Or, you could explore entirely new areas that spark your curiosity.
Kush: That's helpful. I like the idea of combining my interests. But, how do I make sure that writing becomes a consistent, sustainable path in my life?
Me: Consistency is definitely key. Setting a monthly writing goal, blocking out time in your calendar, and leveraging tools like NotebookLM can all help. But let’s take a step back. What’s your goal with the writing path?
Kush: I definitely want to develop it as a life path and keep growing. I do wonder though if we are on multiple life paths, is it necessary that we try to excel at all paths?
Me: That's a great question. I believe that if something is a path for you, it is very important to have a learning and growth mindset for it. And as you keep learning and progressing, you will naturally excel -- it will be a journey..
Kush: You mentioned that excellence follows naturally with a growth mindset. But in the pursuit of multiple paths, how do you decide when to push harder versus when to let growth unfold at its own pace?
Me: Another beautiful question Kush! There's no right answer here, and listening to your inner voice is important. If you are driven to push harder, definitely do that. But if that's making you unfulfilled or burnt out, it might be a signal to let go. Your true paths will always come to you :)

Growth Mindset is Key: When pursuing multiple paths, adopt a learning and growth mindset. Excellence will naturally emerge as you progress.
